Hello! Just joined so I can be part of this awesome forum. Stumbled across Toid youtube channel a few days ago and just love everything I’ve watched. Nice work!
I recently (for whatever reason) have been re-bitten by the speaker build bug….I build my own towers TMWW config over 20 years ago and also a sealed sub. Way before the internet and all this awesome info so the “Speaker Design Cookbook, fifth edition” was my bible. Also totally into HT….built my first projector waaaaaay back in the 1990’s using a 13″ inch Sony TV that I re-wired to invert the image, and a homemade screen with a parabolic shape to maximize light reflection back to me. Yeah it sucked but WAY better than anything you could buy at that time for under $20,000.
So I’m looking forward to getting up to speed on all the amazing stuff now available…my current theater setup is fine but heck want it to be BETTER.
For my first speaker project the Epic is very interesting. Perfect for my living room (no room for a sub so these should work nicely), paired with one of these fancy new wifi-equipped affordable amps with old-school VU meters and a modern turntable to spin vinyl on. It will be EPIC ! I love the look of the towers JyPay did on this forum.
So my questions are: 1) does the passive radiator get placed on opposite sides for the left and right speaker? That is, would the right speaker have the PR on the left and the left speaker have it on the right ? Or vice-versa? Or are they facing the same direction? Or should I decide this based on the room (it is an open floor plan….living room shares with entryway and dining room and somewhat with kitchen. Yeah, not ideal I know)?
And 2) how much power would I need? I’m not looking to blast the household into oblivion, but don’t want weeny SPL either.
After the Epics…..I think I’d really like to build the Audience 212, then possibly a big sub or two (my current single 12″ is so small these days!!), then some rears like the Cinema 10 or ?. The Audience 212 totally grabbed me, they are AWESOME !!!
I’m trying to figure out which way to go with a screen and projector upgrade, where to put the sub/s, etc. Currently got a rear projector (old…it is 720p) with a 108 inch screen…thinking I wanna go as big as possible on the screen and go 4k with a UST. Need to layout how everything fits together. So many options ! Hopefully the Audience 212 will work with a much bigger screen.
Anyway, very excited and MANY thanks to Mr. Toid for making awesome videos and designs and this forum !
F-Bear (real name Tim but that nickname was already taken so used my old callsign)

March 1, 2025 at 10:03 pm #56989There are members who have built the epics, and they say they love them. I’m sure they are as good as everyone says. I’ve.never heard them, so….
Going off the spec sheet for the 5-1\2″ driver, they are only 83.3 dB per driver and that’s with the dual voicecoil wired in series for 8 ohms. I can’t say, but standard practice would be to put them in parallel to give a 4 ohm load. That would mean that even though you doubled the cone area to add 3 dB, they’d be wired in parallel to drop 3 dB so they’d still be set to 83.3 dB @1 watt. That means you’ll need power to fill a large room. Those that own these speakers, please chime in.
As to the PRs, I don’t see why you couldn’t put them on opposite sides.

March 2, 2025 at 9:30 pm #56994I just looked at the parts list, and you are right. Two PRs, and from the pics, one on each side.
