Thinking about building a budget cabinet or two for a friend who is a DJ. I’d like to use the <b itemprop=”name”>GRS 15PT-8 and mount these push-pull face to face configuration in what I calculated to be a 5.5 cu ft box giving -3db at 32HZ. For the price point I dig them and I really like the exposed magnet instead of just a regular old cone. Quick question on resistance. Will these maintain an 8-ohm load or will it double or halve? And will I get the full 350W RMS of each speaker to give me 700W in each cabinet?
So just 1 pair in Isobaric configuration will either halve or double the nominal impedance, depending on how it’s wired. Generally they are wired in parallel which would halve the impedance. The power adds up and the Vas is split in half. So your box is only 1/2 the size it would be for just a single woofer.
If you go look at the ISO 100 build that TOID (Nick) did, it has 2 pairs in the box. That means you can wire them so they maintain original impedance, the power adds up again, and the Vas goes back to what a single woofer is listed. So now you have 4 drivers in the size of a box for a single driver, twice the cone area, and 4 times the power handling (depending on how well the XMAX is maintained at power) and motor strength. Build 2 for DJ work and they can cover a huge area for a small size (relatively).
