Hi,

I am looking for instructions/diagram for wiring the DPDT toggle switch that Ghent Audio supplies on some of their amp kits. The switch allows you to select the RCA or XLR jacks as inputs. I've searched the Net and cannot find any simple straightforward instructions on how to wire this?

Thanks.

@ctbarker32 ah it's the toggle switch not the RTX board. Can you do me a favor and us the board your using?  And the case?  So I can look further into this for you?

No worries.  You just are new, so it limits posting urls.  It is this case with the 200asc Ice module

Yes. It has both RCA and XLR inputs with a toggle switch. I thought I understood how to wire, but my attempts were failures (hum, noise).

got it.  Looking at it, it looks like a DPDT switch.  Here is a hookup diargram here of a DPDT switch (very bottom).  Now the to hook up the XLR and RCA is found on the last page of here.  Keep in mind that this diagram is a mirror image of the first diagram (ie pins 3 and 4 are on the right hand side). Let me know if this helps.

P.S.  You can ignore the RC circuit.

I actually looked at this paper but did not understand it. I appreciate your efforts but I was wondering if you could further explain how to implement the diagram into an actual wiring hookup. For example, does the first trace that appears to go from input (+) on the Icepower board through both the top two DPDT terminals and then to the Hot (+) Pin terminal on the XLR back? I don't fully understand what the slanted line means. Also it looks like the RCA ground doesn't hook up to the DPDT but goes to some floating ground? Is this the same ground point as pin 1 on the XLR? It also looks like there is a resistor or something in the RCA ground path?

I am sorry to have all these questions. An actually picture of this hookup is all I really need?

Thanks.

The hookup documentation isn't that great, but what you are looking for is on page 19 of the Spec PDF. Can you diagram how you have it hooked up?

I'll do a short video explaining it later.

It's actually quite simple. The outside lugs are where you place the inputs, while the center lugs are where you take the outputs.

The fun part:

On one side (3 in a row), all the + go, signal + from balanced, + from unbalanced (individual outside lugs), and the Vi+ from center lug to the amp Vi+ input (wire 8 on J3).

On the other side (3 in a row), you connect the signal - from balanced and ground from unbalanced to their complementary outside lugs and the Vi- from center lug to Vi- on the amp (wire 7 on J3).

Now, connect the unbalanced ground to the AGround on the amp (wire 6 on J3). This can come from the outside lug from above.

If you have hum, you can connect the shield of the balanced connector to AGround (wire 6 on J3).

All should work correctly.

Absolutely.  3 and 4 will have the + and - of the amplifier source.  1 and 2 will be the rca and 5 and 6 will be the xlr.

Fantastic this is what I have been searching for all this time. I don't understand why Ghent won't provide this information? I actually asked them and got no reply?

Your guess is as good as mine. This is basic wiring using the criteria given in the spec sheet, so maybe they thought anyone building the kit should be able to figure it out. All I can say is, Heathkit they aren't. Hope this works out for you.
