Hey I made myself a center channel using the same parts and crossover as my kl-650 thx clones. Even though some say it won't sound good as a horizontal center because the mid/ bass drivers are too far apart, it absolutly sounds great ! I kept more or less the same inner cu ft ... dimensions are 31.5" W x 8.5" H x 14.5" D and built using 1" mdf and 1.5" front baffle..
Would I gain much by building these over having my;
klipsch:
Rf-82-ii
Rb-81ii
rs-502
rc-62ii
i did find some extra parts to build a rc-64ii...
just wondering if the detail while watching movies would be worth the build..
Nice! That layout looks clean! And that center looks nice and sleek! I might just have to build one like it for fun.
I haven't personally heard the RF82's in my house, so it would just be a guess. I will say these are the most detailed speaker I have heard in my living room for movies. There are a few caveats to that statement. They do not have bass. These are designed to work with subwoofers that produce bass. Your Rf-82's are design more to be full-range. I would typically cross these over by 80hz. So that would definitely sound different. The RF horn is also a 90 x 60, where this is a 50 x 90, so you might want to turn this on it's side to fill the room the same your RF-82's did. There is nothing wrong with that, this is designed to be played in either orientation.
I try to stay away from is this speaker better than that one, since it is highly subjective. So I won't say yes build it, it is definitely better than what you have. What I will say though, is if you are interested in DIY and want to see if you like them more, than go for it.
Hey Thankyou for the reply!!
im def not worried about bass as I am putting in 4 12” subs!!
I am def looking for the effect as I use my room for movies and occasional gaming.
Running a denon AVR-x3500h into a tone winner 7x300 amp.
The major thing I’m not crazy about doing is building the crossover.
im comfortable with the box build.. I have already tracked down all the parts to build 5 of these for now. May build 2 more later for sides surround.
would u use your Cnc to make 7 face plates and ship them? I will def pay to have those done..
@chewbrocoli WOW!!! that looks AWESOME!!!! I'll take one in black please. =)
Disclaimer: I've been in the forum long enough to know a couple things, but have yet to actually do a speaker build myself =)
would you be able to send the DXF file for the CNC? I would like to take a crack at one of these and test out for a center channel!
Also subscribed to the youtube channel...this is one of the best DIY speaker channels along with this site for support...just awesome.
If you want to contact me via my business e-mail sales@toidsdiyaudio.com, I can quote you on 7 front plates. Just include your shipping zip code. I currently, don't have time to solder 7 crossover boards, but I know we all would be happy to help you along the way. Maybe someone on here like @chewbrocoli would want to make some extra cash by soldering you some boards. You would have to ask around though.
Thank you! As long as you are using it for personal use, I'll send over a file for the front baffle.
Excellent. I'll try to look that over today and get back to you. But it may not be until tomorrow. I'm pretty swamped today.
I did I am sending you an e-mail right now.
