I want to build a pair of 3-way ported towers using a tweeter, 5-1/4″ midrange and two 8″ woofers (2 woofers in each tower). I understand using 2 woofers will increase sensitivity. What I want to know is can I now tune lower using 2 woofers than I could if only using 1 woofer per tower? I also understand I will have to double the box volume when using 2 woofers.

@nick7676 That is a good question. That will depend on the woofers and how you hook them up. In general the answer is no. They will still tune to the same frequency, but require twice the box size. However, you might be able to do an isobaric configuration which could lower tuning frequency.

I’m going to link to Hexibase’s video because it is very clear on the relationship between multiple drivers and their mounting configuration. Even if you choose to do a slightly different wiring scheme than he shows, his explanation of the way the properties interact allow you to derive the correct T/S parameters for box design. It definitely crystalized my understanding and I’ve been studying this hobby for a very long time.
