Ever wanted a CNC machine that could handle 4′ x 8′ or even larger boards? I have too but never really went forward with it because those machines can get cost prohibitive. Not anymore! I recently came across a company called Maslow that makes a DIY CNC kit for only around $500.

They recently ran a successful crowdfunding campaign for their version 4 of the kit. I plan to order a kit once they are available for everyone: https://www.maslowcnc.com/

For a full functional CNC machine, all you need is their kit along with a specific router and the total cost should be less than $800. Unbelievable if you consider all the features it supports in addition to handling big boards.

My next home projects with woodworking as well as building new speakers would make use of that CNC machine 🙂👍

That is really cool. I know I looked into that as well. You may want to double check to see if it will work well for you. The way it is designed, it is really hard to hold tolerances. Maybe they fixed that in the 4th version. It is a cool machine, but I am not sure when you want to recess drivers and make specific size cutouts how reliable it will be. But then again, for only $500….

            Good point.

I am looking for a CNC that I can fold and put away when I don’t need it. I don’t have a dedicated shop so workspace is limited. The Maslow team claims that the precision is give or take 1/64th of an inch so I am eager to try 🙂 Once the machine is available to purchase, I will surely order one and see how easy it is to build stuff with it.

That would be great if it is. I know the original had decent tolerances in the middle, but whenever it got to the side sides and corners, it went pretty far off. Also, just keep in mind you will need to take some time to learn how to dial it in. typically this is doens within your CNC software. It’s definitely priced right and fits your needs. It’s always about finding what is right for you you.

                SCORE!!!

I got the email notification a few days ago that there would be some coming up for sale, so I set my alarm for 3:30 to be sure I would be able to get one.

Apparently it’s not as much of a mad-dash as I expected, as they Add To Cart button is active.

                    Awesome!

I had signed up for the availability notification too and was able to place an order. Got the order confirmation email and now waiting for the shipping confirmation…

I already have a couple of speakers builds lined up – Center Stage 215, per @Chedwin & @Toids_DIY_Audio design as well as desktop speakers – Overnight Sensations. I may also use it to build a cabinet for a Guitar amp 🙂

Then there’s another plan to build two subwoofer cabinets, with each cabinet housing two 21″ Kraken Subwoofer drivers.

Yeah, I’ve already got a list of ideas as well…

I definitely need to sit down and prioritize, or else it won’t be very long before there are large speakers in every room of our home.

After a long wait, finally received an email from Maslow confirming the delivery of my DIY CNC kit. The new speakers build projects will be done using this CNC.

I got my shipping email also!

Unfortunately (Not really lol), I fly to Japan tomorrow and won’t be back until next month. Hopefully we’ll see a few builds in that time, and I can make some sort of plan on what’s next.

So far there’s talks of new Atmos, a 212 center channel, two different 215 tower builds, and the 21″ isobaric subwoofer … all in the pipeline by various people

My Maslow DIY kit was finally delivered today. The packaging looks smaller than I anticipated.

Have you had time to get yours setup yet? Which frame design have you/will you settle on?

I’m back from Japan, and my Maslow package has been eyeing me, lol! I need to finish a speaker, and also install my bass shakers before I start fidgeting with it though.

I’ve been reading all of the weekly update emails, and to me, the flat/laying down frame seems to be the most simple option to go with, and maybe the best for cleanup as well.

I have not had an opportunity to assemble my Maslow. The package is still untouched…. been busy with another project. However, I plan to build a flat/horizontal frame when I get to it. I plan on documenting the process and maybe make a forum thread here.

                                Progress, thus far…

I’ve got the sled and arms assembled. Awaiting the arrival of my DeWalt D26204K-XE router to arrive. In the meantime, I’m looking more into frames and frame design options.

***The assembly is very simple, and instructions are easy to follow. Though, it is a very tedious process.

I went ahead and ordered the 3D printed dust collector attachment, anchor points, corner and inside plates, and button pusher using CraftCloud. I also ordered the fancy pull pins and emergency stop button through Amazon. And, I found an Etsy shop selling upgraded belt guards.

                                  • June 20, 2024 at 8:26 pm #54225

My router arrived, and out of boredom, excitement, or more like BOTH, I went ahead and assembled my Maslow.

It’s not a difficult assembly, but it is quite tedious and time consuming. I’ll have to partially disassemble it once the upgraded parts arrive, but that’s fine. It will simply serve as a chance to get more familiar with it, in the case of failure or malfunction in the future.

                                      Looking good.

You made quite a progress there when some of us are trying to take advantage of the summer in Northern Michigan 😀 My Maslow is still in the packaging but hopefully I would come around to assembling it soon and maybe put some mileage on it for a few projects before the weather prohibits working outside.

Yeah, we’re starting winter in the southern hemisphere, so I gotta get up and running before it’s hotter than blazes in a few months

I have been busy with some home remodeling projects lately and have not been very active here. I have yet to setup my CNC machine. Maybe in a couple weeks…
