I have seen quite a few DIY bookshelf speaker builds that have traditionally used Dome type tweeters. Do any of you know of good quality builds that use other types of Tweeters like Isodynamic Planer, Ribbon or AMT?
I am looking to build a set of bookshelf speakers for my home office. Building them using a Planer Tweeter would be nice… something like this:

The specs on that Planer Tweeter sound very inviting and I want to go ahead, order a couple of these and pair them with some good 8″ (atleast) Woofers… Or maybe design a 3-way speaker. I am fully aware that with a 3-way speaker, the speaker may not remain a bookshelf anymore 🙂

Here’s a page with a design consideration you need to keep in mind:

A 8″ driver will be just about the biggest you can go and still “work” with the tweeter. Of course, you’ll need to look at the woofer / midrange response graphs to get a sense if that number is correct.

Thanks for the link. I will play around with the site. I may start a new thread when I build these.

As it turns out, there is a kit available that checks all the requirements: 3 way design with a ribbon tweeter. My issue with the kit is that it is too “complete” 😀

True, but those that build them tend to really like them. Or so the reviews say. Never heard them, so my opinion doesn’t mean much.
