Hi , pulling the components together to Build the Epic Hi Fi, the room the speakers will be used has a wall which will be closer to the right-hand speaker passive radiator than the left speakers left passive radiator.
During design was there any thought to using Ports? instead of the passive radiators.
Cheers
I can’t say for sure, as I haven’t modeled the drivers and I don’t know the size or tuning of the box, but just looking at the size of it and having 2 of the Epique drivers in there, I bet the port would be large and long. That’s one of the reasons you’d go with the PR’s. Plus it really helps to mitigate extraneous noise since there aren’t any ports to chuff or whistle.
For example: what would equate to the Chebyshev alignment in the optimum box for a pair of the Epiques, a 2″ port would be 8-5/8″ long (flow would most likely exceed 17 m\s) and a 3″ port would be 20-5/8″ long. With as much air as these move. I would doubt a 3″ port would be enough.
So, as you can see, the bigger the port, the longer it has to be.
