Making a new small two way for use as surround sound speakers
After getting some advice on methods using winisd from elliot I managed to increase the power this little speaker will be able to handle compared to my other builds (I think), the drivers are the ND91-8 paired with the ND20FA-6 now I haven’t decided where to cross over yet, I may just use the tweeter from around 6khz to help out the larger woofer, or I may choose to cross a little lower around 4k and let it do more of the work. I had considered using a BMR driver to take over from around 400hz after advice from toid in another thread, I would have preferred that but this is a tiny speaker, and I can’t find a BMR driver small enough, other than a headphone driver. So I ended up with a pretty good looking little design that will have an enclosure made of 3mm aluminium sheet, welded all around and painted gloss white (maybe). I’ve wanted to see how a speaker sounds in an aluminium enclosure compared to MDF, if it doesn’t sound good I can go back to the MDF way. I think it will work tho, making the enclosure is the easy bit, but fitting everything into such a small box will no doubt take some imagination in the xsim design to limit the amount of crossover parts, but we will see. The enclosure will be 0.1ft3 and have quite a big port, pics below, if I can get them to upload, let me know what you think please.
