My Second Pair Of DINAS
Hello to Nick and all forum members. It has been a long time since I posted here but I have browsed the forum without logging in. I’m posting now to share a photo of my second DINAS build and ask for some help with a problem I’m having with one of the DINAS.
A little history. The DINAS were my first build. Building them was a lot of fun and they sounded great. I learned a lot building them. Since my first build I have built another five pairs of speakers, two subwoofers and a center channel. While I’m not a Japanese master craftsman, I like to think I gained skill with each build. Here’s a photo of my first DINAS:
Why did I build another pair? Glad you asked. I “loaned ” these to a friend and he likes them so much I can’t ask for them back. Feeling a need to upgrade my computer speakers, I decided to build another pair. I could go on longer but I’ll just post a photo.
This photo was take shortly after I made the last solder connections. The one that is working sounds fantastic. This brings me to my request for help. I am more of a wood worker than an electronics person. Fortunately I can follow instructions and solder the connections. However, I made the mistake of testing the first speaker the same way I test my passive builds and sent an amplified signal through the plate amp and to the drivers. Now the only sound I get from it is a thumping heartbeat type sound. I’ve retouched the solder connections and they look good.
I’m looking for guidance and suggestions. How can I test the plate amp to confirm it should be replaced? I think the drivers are ok but I’m not sure.
Suggestions and comments greatly appreciated.
Phil
