        New theater build. (Pic included)

Current equipment: Yamaha RX-A2A / Epson Home Theater 4010

Need speaker recommendations. Looking to build speakers including Atmos.

What are your goals? How many speakers? Does it matter the size of the speakers? Are you looking to buy off the shelf, or DIY?

            Let’s start with the Yamaha.

It’s a configurable unit. First it states a 7.2 configuration, but when going atmos, it can be set as a 5.1.2 – either 2 side or 2 height. So you have to decide what way you want to go.

            Room size and configuration.

12′ x 22′ x 8′ with a 2′ cove around 3 sides. That’s somewhere around 2100 CuFt., depending on the cove. It’s a good sized room, so I’d look at either the Cinema 10 or the Soundstage 15. Down at the bottom of each page are the finished dimensions. I think it would be prudent to do something like a cardboard mockup to see how they fit in the room. Note that they will both need stands, so keep that in mind. Figure out a rough placement of your seating and also any other things that may take up space. Then you can think about what fits better. Either of them should do the job when mated to the right subwoofer(s). They are both very efficient, with the edge going to the 15.

For surrounds and rears, look back in the threads and you’ll see a design for a slanted top surround/height speaker that uses a concentric driver, 10″ IIRC. They should be a good fit.

A quick aside on the Soundstage 15’s…

I have them as my LCR. They sound amazing, and have incredible levels of output, but in specific regards to duty as a center channel, it’s impractical unless you’re using it behind an acoustically transparent screen. I’m absolutely sure that once the Audience 215 build is posted, I will make those and either repurpose or get rid of these

^^That’s why I suggested a cardboard Mock-up. It’ll give you a sense of what really works, size-wise, in the space with a particular layout. And, even though the 15 has rave reviews, the 10 is no slouch either. Granted, it’s a few dB quieter, but they’ll still be more than enough. And the SQ is almost on par with the 15, so says Toid. What you’ll want to do is make sure the subs you use are well matched and the cross-over is set correctly. That’s where most of your big bang for the wattage resides.. You should do that anyway.

The Soundstage 15 is no more. Dayton stop making the 15.
