What are the implications of putting a Present 10 drivers with crossover in a larger box? Assuming they will be cutoff at 80hz with a HPF setting on the amp. Also I only care about on axis sound, as this is for a dedicated listening area, not HT.
Found these boxes on AliExpress, and I have no DIY skills 🙂
These are made for 10″ drivers, would they have to be flush mounted?
What about baffle step compensation? Edge diffraction?

June 23, 2025 at 6:19 pm #58566I haven’t run any numbers on the driver yet. Have you?
Box size (volume) in relation to the T/S parameters is a large part of how the bass response is shaped. But, seeing as you want to hipass these at 80 Hz, the box size and type is not as important. I would think that if you have a decent sized box (as compared to optimum design), it won’t really affect the lower end quality that much. And baffle step shouldn’t be so much concern either, as that pretty much reduces mid and hi frequency output to compensate for bass losses due to baffle diffraction. Again since you are drastically limiting the bass output, that is not much of a worry. Same goes for regular diffraction since you are mainly going to use these on axis.
Now, if anyone else has something to chime in, please do. I’m all ears as well.

June 24, 2025 at 3:28 pm #58584Looking at these boxes, it says they are normally for a 12″ speaker or can be cut for a 15″ speaker.
You mentioned the Presence 10, so unless they can do a custom baffle cut for you, you would need a bit of a filler ring and way to mount that for the Celestion FTX1025 used in the presence 10. Luckily there is a 12″ version you can use as a drop in.
You asked if they needed to be flush mount or what type of mount would be used. If the baffle is thick enough, you can do a flush mount, but all indicators show it would be a front mounted speaker.
Also using the T/S parameters for the Celestion FTX1025 (10″) and the FTX1225 (12″), and the sealed volume of the box of 130 L or 4.6 Cu.Ft., you get:
FTX1025
Qcab = 0.47
Tunes to 76 HzFTX1225
Qcab = 0.41
Tunes to 43 HzAs you can see, these are tuned below the 80 Hz cutoff (steep slope, not a cliff), so they should work. As for the crossover, I am not privy to it, but I’d think a lowpass/highpass with whatever LPad needed would do. And like I said earlier, your objectives make certain concerns less important.

They have 10″ specific cabinets too on their AliExpress page. Thanks for the response, if I understand your analysis correctly, I don’t need to do anything except make sure the drivers are fitting the box correctly.
And yes, 80hz crossvoer and on axis listening, should make it easier to use this.
