September 3, 2025 at 9:55 pm #66459At the moment, I’m working on a boombox that I’d like to be able to take on the next vacation. That’s the one thing that’s missing from the cabin – tunes.
I started at the Parts Express Buyout section, grabbing some 3″ Long Throw EAS8P338A6 Full-Range Speakers and some Sharp 1208PB158 Speaker 8 Ohm speakers – the EAS will be for the lower end and the sharps will fill out the rest. I have some amps from the Dollar Tree, back when it was truly a dollar store (they really do work nice) and other bits and pieces that I’ve collected from various places for input and amplification. I’m going to do Bluetooth and straight 3.5mm line in for now. And I’m trying decide to go with either actual crossovers or filters on the amps. If you’re wondering, it is calculated to hit about 94-95 dB with the amps and still be in the safe range of excursion.
Here’s to getting it done by the end of the month!

I am currently trying to extract the maximum mileage of the Fall season mountain biking in Michigan. I plan on upgrading my atmos speakers from the current 5 to 6. The plan is to build a total of 6 Presence 10. Two of them would be placed right above my home theater seating. I wonder if the Presence 10’s body can be squared shaped, compared to the angled front baffle?
One of the areas in my basement is to be used for music listening and I want to build two full range passive speakers too in Audience 212 style but with 15″ drivers.

Thats great news! I call shotgun!!
In my basement, I have a space earmarked for music listening and I plan to go the old fashion Turntables way! Needless to say, the proposed 215 speakers would power the stereo sound stage so I am waiting umm… anxiously. No pressure 😀
I saw the new build threat which I plan on following!

September 12, 2025 at 5:33 pm #66494Okay – here’s a bit of electronics I may or may not need – Preamps to “maybe” drive the little amps to their limits with built in crossover @ 211 Hz
Low Pass for the sub section, and High Pass for the mains. See modeled response overlay. They will be feeding these amp boards if they are needed. Here are some of the other parts I got for cheap. The amp is in the ball speaker. The speaker is pretty pathetic, but the amps are really good for their output – ~3W @ 3 ohm.
