Have you considered the Markaudio drivers? A “highly modified” version of the CHR-70 is used (without any filtering) in a $4000 speaker set but that is for a floor standing speaker. I have an older 4″ pair (Pluvia 7) and they sound great but there is little bass heard. I have them in a 9 liter vented cabinet. Madisound.com offers some of their drivers. According to the manufacturer there is an extended break-in period for these drivers. 100 hours of very low volume is recommended then gradually raise the volume to ‘normal’ listening levels. Also max wattage is 20 watts with a listed 85.5 dB efficiency at 8 Ohms.
Ok, I just had a thought. I’m wondering what a mini horn would be like. “Mini” as in using something like a 2″ Aurasound full range driver in a bookshelf sized horn enclosure. I don’t have the astronaut math required to design horn enclosures so I don’t know how that would work. Good luck with your project!
